"We are delighted to announce that we have received a £4,000 donation from the Summerfield Charitable Trust, who support a wide range of good causes for the benefit of those living in Gloucestershire. Their kind donation will be used to support Cots for Tots House, which provides free home-from-home accommodation for families of babies who are being cared for on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St Michael’s Hospital.
Beth and James know what a difference the Cots for Tots House can make after their daughter, Olivia, was admitted to NICU on Christmas Day last year after being born 5 weeks premature. The couple say: “We live in the Forest of Dean – more than an hour away, and assumed we would need to use a combination of local hotels, commuting and sleeping in the car to be near our critically ill daughter – all on a very tight budget. Whilst we were still contemplating how to manage this, we were informed about Cots for Tots House and the relief we felt was enormous. Accommodation was arranged incredibly quickly and what a difference it made to us!
Being just 5 minutes from Olivia allowed us to visit her as many times a day as we wanted to and, as time went by and she got a little better, helped us to take a much more active role in parenting and caring for Olivia despite her being in intensive care.
Cots for Tots House is so much more than just a room to stay in – you gain emotional and practical support simply by being with other parents going through a similar thing, and the friendliness, compassion and support of the management team at the House is fantastic.
We hope that this fantastic facility and support network will continue to be available for future families who find themselves in such challenging situations.”
Thank you to the Summerfield Charitable Trust for supporting Cots for Tots House."
